If you’re like us then you are a dog lover! There’s nothing like taking your dog to brunch when it’s a beautiful day outside. New York has more than a few places that you can have a drink and grab something to delicious to eat with your pupper in tow. Check out our favorites in this list of 17 dog-friendly restaurants in NYC:
1. Boat Basin Cafe
The food is nothing special- in fact, it’s served on paper plates. But you come here for the atmosphere. This kind of place is rare in Manhattan. Casual outdoor cafe overlooking the Hudson River with burgers, beer & sandwiches and dog-friendly seating.
2. Barking Dog
This UES standout is great, and the food superb. Very dog-friendly. From their website: “with a fun canine theme that includes doggy watering fountains outside, Barking Dog appeals to the stroller set as well as to older “kids” who might enjoy a cocktail from our fully stocked bar.”
3. LIC Bar
One of our favorite bars in the area. LIC Bar is a classic New York City watering hole in the hottest neighborhood in Queens. You’ll find the bar’s 100-year-old history. In the sweet spot between divey and classy, makes this a great casual hangout spot. Not too loud or too quiet. And the backyard is spacious and great in warm weather. Enjoy a backyard BBQ at LIC bar that touts live music and a dog-friendly patio.
4. The Wilson NYC
The Wilson is a neighborhood gem located at the intersection of the Chelsea and NoMad neighborhoods and just South of Madison Square Garden. The Wilson recently added a distinct dog menu with fancy options like a 16-ounce grilled ribeye steak.
Cookshop has a great neighborhood restaurant with a wonderful summer patio! And dogs can join if dining outdoors, since there’s lovely, expansive sidewalk seating with ample greenery on 10th Avenue, right near the High Line.
6. Shake Shack
Shake Shack has everything you need to fill up and cool off on a hot day. And best of all, dogs are allowed to share in the fun. Shake Shack is one of the most dog-friendly chains in operation, and you can find them sprinkled all over NYC and Brooklyn. They not only welcome dogs outdoors, but every U.S. location offers a dog-friendly menu, too!
7. Five Leaves
The outdoor seating is pretty coveted at this bustling Greenpoint restaurant that Heath Ledger helped conceive, but it’s even more desirable real estate for dog-owning diners. Expect American fare with an Aussie accent. If you don’t know what that means, you’ll have to head to Brooklyn to find out.
There’s a spacious sidewalk seating area at this Fort Greene gem with space for your pup to lounge on the ground while you and your (human) date share Mediterranean-Italian plates like crispy tempura soft-shell crab and airy whipped ricotta with focaccia. YUM!
9. Habana Outpost
This family-friendly hangout definitely features on our list of 17 dog-friendly restaurants in NYC! The superb Cubano sandwich is a must-order at this Fort Greene go-to, which features an expansive outdoor area with picnic tables, where dogs and strollers can often be spotted — many of them covered for shade on super sunny days.
10. Pig Beach
Laid-back outdoor bar & eatery in Carroll Gardens offering trays of pit-smoked BBQ, plus draft beer & cocktails. Pig Beach is happy to host dogs who are well-behaved and on a leash in their outdoor areas.
11. Mission Dolores
Mission Delores is widely known as “The weird beer bar at 4th and Carroll.” Choose from over 20 beers on tap as you hang out in this unique space. Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome inside Mission Delores
12. Buttermilk Channel
Also located in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood, Buttermilk Channel offers American cuisine in a comfortable location with dog-friendly outdoor tables.
13. Five Boroughs Brewing Co
Five Boroughs is located in an industrial space in Sunset Park. Awesome brewery with tons of great beers on tap. It’s a little off the beaten path, but doesn’t get too crowded. Good service and dog friendly!!
14. Lavender Lake
Distressed materials add urban flair to this hip bar with a compact beverage list & creative plates. Inside the large, airy space — which used to be a carriage house and now sports a minimalist look, all exposed brick and wooden beams — you’ll find a rotating menu of cocktails plus house-made sodas (lemon-lavender and ginger-lime) that can be served with your choice of spirit. Your dog will love chilling by your side on the deck and maybe finding a piece of food or two that has dropped from above.
15. Anable Basin
This unpretentious, compact waterside joint in Long Island City offers a simple menu of burgers, hot dogs & beer. Really great outdoor spot, breathtaking views of the city, dog friendly and very laid back!
16. The Springs
Industrial-chic bar with art installations & a big back garden attract locals for cocktails & beer. If you want to have an outdoor group hang in Greenpoint, but you don’t want to deal with the massive crowds at Brooklyn Barge or Northern Territory, try The Springs.
17. The Breakers
The Breakers in Williamsburg fills 2,500 square feet with neon signs, saturated colors, and skateboards and surfboards. The style pulls from ’80s surfing and skateboarding looks, with a little dose of disco in the mix. An elaborate mural on the floor, for instance, is inspired by skateboard design. Dogs welcome!
