430 E. 9th St, Manhattan
Don’t expect any frills at this tiny hole in the wall in the East Village. And as the sign on the wall says – they don’t serve fries so don’t ask for them. However, they serve one of the best and most original veggie burgers you’ll ever eat. Their creative sides will make your mouth water. Therefore, this spot is not to be missed.
86 Allen St, Manhattan
This is a vegetarian restaurant that offers two constantly-changing tasting menus – five courses for $65 and ten courses for $99 (including tip). Both of these can be made vegan if you ask. Creative, innovative, fancy. Take your date here to show them how high class you are!
197 Meserole St, Brooklyn
For vegans who miss all the junk food and diner food they used to know, Champs has it all. Thus, expect large portions of over-the-top veganized everything. Pancakes, waffles, milkshakes – it’s vegan pig out paradise.
Sushi like you’re never seen it, and 100% vegan. Imagine Hickory smoked jackfruit dumplings or “roasted eggplant, artichoke, and English cucumber topped with saffron chickpea purée and sumac” sushi. Lots of fun combos to try and reasonable prices!
65 Second Avenue, Manhattan
A pizza place that does some creative work with nut cheeses! For a classier night out, or perhaps a date, try Double Zero. Delicious drinks, apps and pizzas that will make you feel like you’re spending way more than you actually are.
93 Ralph Ave, Brooklyn
A bit out of the way for the casual tourist, but real vegans will go anywhere for that good food! Toad Style serves up 100% vegan, soy free, palm oil free and non gmo food. Seating is limited at the casual eatery, but don’t let that fool you. This Bed-Stuy powerhouse is not to be overlooked!
Riverdel Vegan Cheese
820 Washington Ave, Brooklyn
We’re so interested in this place that we are putting it in our list of best vegan food in NYC, and we haven’t even tried it yet! This six-seat Prospect Heights deli sells breakfast sandwiches (all day!), regular sandwiches, and of course, a wide array of VEGAN CHEESE. Therefore, run, don’t walk.
131 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn
Bowls, burritos and an all you can eat buffet on Sundays. This little hippie joint is a real treat in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Healthy delicious vegan food with a friendly vibe that makes you feel like you’re in a small town and not in one of the biggest cities in the US. Delicious nutritious food made with love – that won’t break your wallet.
329 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn
Every vegan knows this genre of vegan food intimately – vegan Chinese / pan-Asian. There are tons of restaurants like this around New York that offer such similar menus, you’d wonder if they were all owned by the same people. Perhaps? However, Dao Palate in Park Slope stands a bit above the rest, and has been around a long time. Firstly, get your soy chik’n fix here and pig out on classic Chinese favorites, including a sprinkling of Thai and Malaysian dishes. Secondly, Dao has a lot of light and healthy options as well, but we can’t resist a good sticky vegan General Tso’s Chick’n. And as always, it’s fun to go nuts with the classic peanut butter bomb dessert!
Last and certainly not least on our list of best vegan food in NYC! Bareburger – how we love thee. It started in Queens, bt you can find multiple locations all over NYC and beyond now. Sure there are a million burger joints out there, but the range of options in their organic, free-range, sustainable (blah blah blah) food is really what sets Bareburger apart. They were one of the first places to serve the Impossible Burger, which we LOVE. They also serve Beyond meat, and a number of their house-made vegan burgers. They have lovely vegan sauces and are always sensitive to dietary requests.
